CDS Exam Pattern

CDS stands for Combined Defence Services and every year the written examination is conducted by UPSC twice that are CDS 1 Exam and CDS 2 Exam , it is to note that the examination pattern for the written exam is same for both the exams. About CDS Paper Pattern
  • The duration for the examination for each paper will be of 2 Hours.
  • The question will be objective type that is MCQs (Multiple Choice Question)
  • Candidates will be given Question Booklet which will in four sets A,B, C and D.
  • There will be negative marking done for wrong answers made by the candidates. one-third (1/3) marks will be deducted for each wrong answer.
  • There will be total 340 questions for IMA, INA and AFA and 240 number of questions for OTA 
  • However the distribution of the question will be done in the following way:

Interview / personality Test

The candidates who will be selected in the CDS written examination, their names and roll numbers will be displayed in the PDF on official website when the UPSC will release the CDS Exam result. Shortlisted aspirants in the CDS Written Examination are required to attend the Interview which is basically to test the Intelligence and Personality of the candidate. It is to notify that the concerned authority of SSB (Service Selection Board) will be responsible for conducting the Interview and selecting the contenders for the post of CDS officers. The SSB Procedure comprises of two stages.

Some Important Instructions:
  • The written examination will consist of multiple choice questions and you have to answer by using only International form of Indian numerals such as 1,2,3,4 etc.
  • Candidates will not be allowed to bring Calculator in the exam hall and you have to complete this exam within given period of time.
  • After the written examination, only qualified applicants will go for the Psychological Aptitude Test and Intelligence Test.
  • Candidates have to secure the minimum marks separately in written examination & SSB test for final selection.
