NEST Eligibility Criteria:
  • Candidates seeking admission to NISER and UM–DAE CEBS for the integrated M Sc program 2017–22 must have passed class XII examination or equivalent with science stream with 60% marks at minimum from any recognized Board in India in the years 2015 or 2016 or be appearing for the same in 2017
  • For candidates belonging to scheduled castes (SC), scheduled tribes (ST) and physically disabled (PD) categories, the minimum requirement of marks is relaxed to 55% in aggregate

NEST Age Limit:
  • General and OBC candidates born on or after August 01, 1997 are eligible to apply.
  • Relaxation in age limit for the SC/ST/PD candidates will be given by 5 years.
Selection Process:

The candidates will be selected for the courses on the basis of the marks obtained by them in the examination conducted through the test.

Application fees:

The application fee applicable for the male candidates of General/OBC category is Rs.700 and the amount applicable for the SC/ST/PD category candidates and all female candidates is Rs.350.

The application amount will be submitted through online mode i.e. with the help of credit/debit card or via net banking (more than 40 banks are indulged)

Applying Process against the NEST Notification:

There is no offline application mode available for the examination. So the candidates have to follow the online applying procedure whose steps are mentioned below:
  • Visit the online portal i.e. www.nestexam.in
  • Hit on the “apply online” tab from the bottom of the homepage
  • Now first of all you have to login /register according to the fact that you have previously registered or you are a new user
  • Then choose one of the side as appeared in the image below

  • If you are already registered then enter your email ID and password and the code and at last hit on the “log in” tab
  • Else if you are a new registration then enter all the details like your full name, e mail ID password etc 
  • After completing the details hit on the Register tab
  • Then you will receive a mail regarding the confirmation of your mail ID
  • Open your e mail ID and check the mail
  • Now hit on the confirmation link
  • Then hit on the “log in to the application form” link
  • Now the same registration window will appear again
  • Now enter your registered email ID and password and hit on the “log in ” tab
  • Then you will be redirected to the next window
  • Fill the details and complete the procedure.

What NEST Offers?

The 5–year combined M Sc program at National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER) and Centre for Excellence in Basic Sciences (CEBS) offers a limited number of merit based scholarships that are handled by the Department of Science and Technology, Govt. of India of Rs.5, 000/– per month and an additional Rs.20, 000/– per year for implementation of summer projects. For the students entered into the MSc programme through the exam the numbers of such scholarships were 60 for NISER and 25 for CEBS.

NEST Exam Pattern:

  • The question paper will consists of objective type questions
  • The total timings given to the candidates to complete the examination will be 3 hours.
  • There will be 5 sections in the examination
  • Section 1 will consist of questions related to general. It will consist of 30 marks and there will be no negative marking for that.
  • Sections 2 to 5 will be of 50 marks each and will contain subject specific questions from Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics
  • Only the best three subject–scores along with the score in the general section will be counted for evaluation and merit list preparation.
  • For the subjects section, negative marking will be there.
