More Details on: IFS Exam Pattern

General English:
  • Students will be required to write an essay in English.
  • Other questions will be designed to test their understanding of English and workmanlike use of words.
  • Passages will usually be set for summary or précis.

General Knowledge:
  • General Knowledge including knowledge of current events and of such matters
  • Experience in their scientific aspects as may be expected of an educated person who has not made a special study of any scientific subject. 
  • The paper will also include questions on Indian Polity including the political system and the Constitution of India, History of India and Geography.

Paper IIIrd, IVth, Vth, and VIth:

The standard level and syllabus for optional subject papers is based on the Bachelors Degree (with Honours). There will be no practical examination in any of the subjects. List of Optional Subjects is as under, candidates need to select any two subjects from this list:

UPSC IFS Eligibility criteria

Educational Qualification:

The candidate must have a Bachelor’s degree with at least one of the subjects namely Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Science, Botany, Chemistry, Geology, Mathematics, Physics, Statistics and Zoology or a Bachelor’s degree in Agriculture, Forestry or in Engineering.

Age Limitation:

A candidate must have attained the age of 21 years and must not have attained the age of 30 years. Relaxation will be for reserved categories candidates.
