GATE Eligibility Criteria

From the past 30 years, Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) was successfully scheduled with a view to grant admission for higher education in M.Tech or Ph.D. in IITs, IISC and various other Institutes/ Universities / Laboratories in India. Since that day till now, it has been emerged as one of the yardstick tests for engineering and science propensity. It is conducted in order to analyze candidate’s understanding of a subject and aptitude and eligibility for higher studies.

Every year, a vast cluster of candidates participate in it, and now the number of candidates taking up GATE exams has increased tremendously and in GATE 2016 near about 9.5 Lac candidates appeared for the examination. GATE exam was mutually scheduled by Indian Institute of Science (IISC) and seven Indian Institutes of Technology such as IITs at Bombay, Delhi, Guwahati, Kanpur, Kharagpur, Madras and Roorkee. This year Indian Institute of Technology Roorkee is the Organizing Institute for GATE 2017.

GATE Attempts:

You can give GATE exam number of times. No such constraint is there to give Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE), but the validity of is mainly for 3 years only after its result date. Candidates can appear multiple time as there is no restriction or bar on number of attempts.

GATE Age Limit:

There is No age restriction for candidates who are going to participate in GATE Exam 2017. Aspirants are eligible to apply for GATE only when he/she have been completed their Bachelors Degree.

GATE Qualification:
  • Applying contenders should be a Bachelor Degree holder, that is, B. Pharm/B.Tech/ B.E. /B. Arch/ Science/ B.Sc. from a recognized University or Institute.
  • Aspirants who are in final year of qualifying exam are also eligible to apply only when is they submit the certificate from the Principal of University or College.
  • Contenders, who have passed the qualifying examination, have to submit their certificate or degree certificate or provisional certificate.
  • Candidates who possessed Master’s Degree in Mathematics/ Science/ computer or equivalent or Statistics or Five year B.S. / M.S. Program or M.Tech or M.E. after B.Sc. are also eligible to apply for this entrance examination.

Keep -in-Mind:

Diploma Holders are not eligible for GATE examination.

Percentage Required in GATE:
  • Validity of GATE score card is mainly for 3 years.
  • GATE score card plays as important in various Indian Public Sector units.
  • By the way of computerized process ORS is evaluated, for it scanned machine is used and no re-evaluation is done.
  • Overall performance of aspirants is shown through GATE Score.
