CAT Exam Pattern:
  • The Exam Pattern of Common Admission Test comprises of 100 questions from different sections.
  • This is a computer based test which comprises multiple choice questions (MCQ).
  • Some of questions will be subjective types. 100 questions will be asked in the examination.
  • The duration of examination is of 3 hours.
  • For each correct response 3 marks will be awarded & one mark will be deducted for incorrect answer.
Quantitative Aptitude (QA)

Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning (DILR)
60 minutes
Verbal and Reading Comprehension (VRC)
60 minutes

CAT Previous Years Question Papers:

Candidates can take help from previous year question papers; this will make them familiarize with pattern of examination, type of questions and marking system. Qualifying Marks for CAT Exam:

v  Applicants must secure a minimum mark in every section to qualify for section and finally for the Common Admission Test.
v  The minimum mark needed to qualify varies upon the relative difficulty level of that section as compared to other sections of exam.
v  Sectional cut-offs varies mostly on basis of performance who appears for the exam in that year.
v  Aspirants must also secure a minimum total cut off for entire paper to earn GD/PI calls from IIMs.
v  It has been observed that various IIMs use different cut-offs to offer calls to appointed aspirants.
v  70% weightage is given to Personal Interview Score and 30% weightage is given to the Common Admission Test /GMAT Score.

CAT Registration in Numbers Over The Years:

Since last many years, it appeared like CAT was losing its magic because the count of registration was falling. However, last year was an exemption as previous 5 years record was crushed when 218664 aspirants applied for exam.
