The Admission in various UG /PG /PGDME /Ph.D programmes will be made through Common Entrance Tests (CETs). The Indian Maritime University (IMU) is a teaching-cum-affiliating university under the Ministry of Shipping, Government of India, with Chennai.  The university every year conducts common entrance test to give admission in various undergraduate and post graduate program.   • 3-Year B.Sc (Nautical Science)
  • 1-Year Diploma in Nautical Science leading to B.Sc. (Applied Nautical Science)
Postgraduate programmes
  • 2-Year MBA (Port and Shipping Management)
  • 2-Year MBA (International Transportation and Logistics Management)
  • 2-Year M.Tech (Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering)
  • 2-Year M.Tech (Dredging and Harbour Engineering)
Postgraduate Diploma programmes 1-Year PGDME:

Post Graduate Diploma in Marine Engineering

Research Programmes: At present Ph.D programme is being conducted at IMU Visakhapatnam Campus.

Eligibility Criteria for Admissions:

      DNS course:
  • 60% (PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th class
  • B.Sc (Any of these Physics/ Mathematics/ Chemistry/ Electronics) passed  candidates with 55 % marks.
  • candidates with 50 % in English.
Note: Candidates applying for DNS, needs to have passport before the admission.

B.Sc- 3 years
  • 60% (PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th Class. For B.Sc in Ship Building and Repair only 50% in PCM
  • Lateral Entry in to program is still in process by the IMU and no admission will be there till further notice.
B Tech Marine Engineering/Naval Architecture – 

60%(PCM) and 50% (English) in 12th Class. 2nd Year lateral entry candidates should have pursued Marine or Mechanical or Naval Architecture or Electrical in diploma.

PG Diploma in Marine Engineering- 50 % in B.E course or program

M Tech Naval Architecture and Ocean Engineering- 60 % in in Mechanical /Civil Aeronautical/Marine/ Naval Architecture

MBA- 50 % with any stream

LLM (Maritime Law)- 50% in any law degree.

Fee Structure of IMU CET Courses

B.Sc or DNS courses
 Rs 2,20,000/- for Boys and 140,500/- for Female cadets per year.
B.Tech Courses
Rs 225000/- for Boys and 140500/- for Female cadets per year.
B Sc Ship Building and Repair
Rs 220000/- for both male and female cadets per year.
B Tech Naval Architecture
Rs 225000/- for both male and female cadets per year.
M.Tech Courses
225000/- for male and female cadets per year.
PH.D Course
 Rs 10000/- per year.
 Rs 300000/- for whole course.

Age Criteria for IMU CET
  • A candidate who is in General category needs to have age not greater than 25 years at time of applying.
  • For reserved category students like SC/ST and PD- Not more than 30 years of age.
  • Reservations of Seats
  • For SC candidates- 15% Quota.
  • For OBC candidates- 27 % should be part of Non Creamy layer.
  • For ST- 7.5 %
  • For DA candidates- 3 %
Note: Any candidate who is applying for the reserved category should have valid caste certificate as per government of India.

Application fee:

Application Fee for applying online for CET is Rs.1000 for General candidates and Rs.700 for Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe candidates. Application Fee has to be paid online only

Selection Process at IMU

Selection of the applicants will be made on the basis of common entrance exam and then after those candidates who are selected are called for counseling or GD or PI as per the course applied. Candidates must make sure that, they comply with all the eligibility.

IMU CET Exam Pattern:
  • The Common Entrance Examination shall have 200 objective type multiple choice questions each carrying one mark distributed in six subjects which are to be attempted in 3 hours duration.
  • The standard of this Common Entrance Test will generally be that of 10+2 level. These six subjects are as follows:

  • Then select the link of “Advertisements for Admissions to UG and PG Programmes” form the right side of the home page
  • The read complete details properly and ensure the eligibility criteria, aspirants who have fulfilled eligibility must apply online
  • Go to the link of Apply Online for CET June and fill online application form properly
  • Then must upload the following documents
Ø  copy of the passport size photograph.
Ø  copy of the signature of the candidate.
Ø  copy of 10th Standard Certificate or equivalent in support of Date of Birth
  • Community Certificate in respect of SC/ST candidates
  • Then submit the form within given time period.
