GATE Application Form 2018: Final Date for submission of GATE Application Form has been declared. Latest GATE Information Brochure has been updated on official portal on 17/08/2017. Way to fill GATE Application Form:

Step 1: GATE Online Application Processing System

GOAPS Registration:
  • Aspirants may apply online by visiting the Gate Official Website that is www.gate.iitg.ac.in.
  • On home page of official site select and hit “and read the notification carefully.
  • Again back to home page and hit the appropriate link to apply online. Gate Brochure” that is given under ‘Quick Links’.
  • Read the given Gate Notification and after that select link for online Gate Registration.
  • Enter your personal mobile number and e-mail address because all communication will be done through it.  
GOAPS Enrollment ID:
  • GOAPS Enrollment ID will be given to the all registered candidates.
  • All future communication regarding the examination will be done through GOAPS Enrollment ID.
  • All communications from the Offices will be sent to this email address
GOAPS Password:
  • The candidate chooses a password during Enrollment at GOAPS.
  • This password must be remembered along with the GOAPS Enrolment ID to Gate Goaps Login.
  • You are recommended to choose the password which is not easily guessed by any one.
Step 2: Filling in GATE 2018 Application:

Required Data for Filling GATE Online Application Form:
  • Personal information (name, date of birth, personal mobile number, parents’ name,parents’ mobile number, etc.).
  • Address for Communication (including PIN code)
  • Eligibility degree details
  • College name and address with PIN code
  • GATE paper (subject)
  • Choice of GATE examination cities
  • High quality image of candidate’s photograph conforming to the requirements specified
  • Good quality image of candidate’s signature conforming to the requirements specified
  • Scanned copy of the Eligibility Certificate in pdf format (Degree Certificate or
  • Provisional Certificate or Certificate from the Head of the Department/Institute (in the
  • format specified in Appendix A)
  • Scanned copy of Category (SC/ST) certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
  • Scanned copy of PwD Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
  • Scanned copy of Dyslexic Certificate (if applicable) in pdf format
  • Details of the valid Identity Document (ID) (The same ID, in original, should be carried
  • to the examination hall)
  • Net-banking/debit card/credit card details for fee payment
Application Filling:
  • Now go for Gate Login and GATE Application Form will be displayed on your computer screen.
  • You need to fill the asked details before proceeding for payment.
  • Fill the GATE Application Form with all necessary information in an appropriate manner without any mistakes.
Identity Proof:
  • Candidates need to upload any one of the following Identity Documents such as Passport, PAN Card, Voter ID, Aadhaar-UID, College ID, Employee ID and Driving License.
  • For international candidates, ONLY a valid Passport/Government issued ID/College ID/Employee ID will be accepted.
Supporting Documents:
  • Candidates need to have the following certificates such as Category (SC/ST) Certificate, Person with Disability (PwD) Certificate and Dyslexic Certificate.
Step 3: Photograph and Signature Requirements:



Photograph Requirements:
  • Candidates need to upload a Photograph of 3.5 cm Width × 4.5 cm Height.
  • The photograph must be in COLOR and taken after 01 August 2017 in a professional studio.
  • Maximum size for JPEG can be 480×640 in pixels (0.3 Mega pixel). Minimum size for JPEG should be 240×320 pixels.
  • Background of the photograph must be white or a light color.
Signature Requirements:
  • Sign in the rectangular box of size 2 cm × 7 cm (Height × Width) on an A4 white paper.
  • The signature with all CAPITAL LETTERS or in any other color (other than black and blue) will NOT be accepted.
  • Only JPEG image format will be accepted.
  • Max size is 160×560 in pixels and Min size is 80×280 in pixels.

Mode of Payment:

Aspirants need to pay the application fee through online mode using Net Banking, Debit Card or e-Challan. 

Step 5: Application Scrutiny and Rectification
  • If candidates find any mistake in their GATE Application Form after submission, then they can rectify filled details.
  • The status of the application and defects identified in the application will be intimated to the candidates by an e-mail and/or SMS.
  • The status of application form can be verified anytime by logging into GOAPS.
  • Application Form Correction contains Name of Candidate, DOB, Name of Parent/Guardian, Status from Gen to OBC and OBC to General, Year of Qualifying Degree etc.
Selection Process:
  • Candidates will be shortlisted on the basis of their performance in Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering.
  • Admissions in IITs/IISc or other Institutes for PG Courses through Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering Scores shall be advertised separately by the Institutes and GATE 2018.
  • The score is used for admissions to post-graduate programs (e.g. M.E./M.Tech/ Direct Ph.D.)

GATE 2018 Exam Pattern:
  • This exam is held for total 23 papers. Candidates are allowed to appear in only one of the 23 papers.
  • The examination is computer based test and will contain 65 questions of maximum 100 marks.
  • There will be Multiple Choice Questions (MCQ) & Numerical Answer Type Questions (NAT) in examination.
  • For MCQ, 4 choices will be provided while there will be no options provided for NAT.
  • In the paper of XE, new section (H) namely Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences has been included.
  • MCQ and NAT questions will carry 1 or 2 marks in all papers.
