Female candidates who wish to have career in IT field now can have their future in this lucrative field, as institutes came up with a decision to offer 20% Quota For Girls in IITs. Time has changed now, there’s also a successful woman along with man in every field and with this consequence several reputed institutes decided to give reservation for Female Students are made available from 2018.

Under the chairmanship of professor Timothy Gonsalves, HRD ministry suggested to making 20% supernumerary seats for girls in the IITs. It has been proposed that there will be reservation for girl students in all IITs, seeing as there’s a slight fall in the total number of female students enrolling and taking admission in all IIT’s prestigious institutes and colleges.

In the meeting of the joint admission board (JAB) this has been discussed and proposed that there will be least 20% reserved seats available that are compulsory for the girl candidates and the reservation will come in effect from this year or from 2018. Every year as per requirement the percentage of the supernumerary seats will be decided but increase in that will not affect the existing number of seats for men.
In terms of Women education and their empowerment, if we related this quota for female student in IITs then there’s great scope for successful career. Engineering is a preferred higher education choice and adequate presence of women in premier institutes like IITs will only encourage parents to take the career of their girls sincerely, thus changing the thoughts that the society takes to a girl’s education.

The progress will also be tackling with the problem of inadequate presence of women in corporate settings as a significant portion of the recruits are from IITs and also will be reason  to take ahead cause of women empowerment in terms of gender equality at workplace.

Thirdly, it will go a long way in addressing stereotypes like girls are not good at science and math. More representation in IITs will provide a bigger platform for many brighter minds among girls to prove their technological excellence.

Though, in case of other institutions the argument becomes stronger if you consider institutions like JNU and IIMs too are working proactively to address the existing gender disparity.
