ICSE Syllabus 2018 New Changes This Year, Class 10th cisce.org Board Exam

ICSE Syllabus 2018: CISCE or the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examination has decided to revise the ICSE Syllabus. This council has made changes in the syllabus of class IX, X and XII, so the students can also appear for the completion exams along with the board exams. These changes have been made of the purpose to make syllabus lighter and reduce the burden for class IX and X. The new changes in the Class 10th syllabus will be in the academic year of 2018.

The decision to change the ICSE syllabi was announced at the 58th national conference of ASISC which was held at Bhubaneshwar. The major changes in the syllabus are in the history, civics, geography, mathematics, physics and biology. The council also said that the content of the syllabus will remain the same but some topics will be shuffled which will be comfortable for the candidates who are appearing for competitions in medical an engineering.

ICSE Examination Pattern

English–I(2 HOURS)

There will be 4 broad questions. First is a composition of 450 to 500 words, second is a letter, third is an unseen passage and related questions and fourth would be a question to test your grammar
English – II(2 HOURS)

Section – A (2 questions from As You Like It)
Section – B (2 questions from Golden Lyre)
Section – C (2 questions from Treasure Trove Of short stories)
MATHS (2 1/2 HOURS)
Section – A ( 4 questions of 10 marks each = 40 marks)
Section – B ( 7 questions out of which 4 are to be solved for obtaining 40 marks)
HINDI(3 HOURS)
It has 3 major parts –
i)Essay of around 250 words
ii)Letter
iii) Unseen passage –
PHYSICS( 1.5 hrs)

Section – A  –  Short compulsory questions worth 40 marks
Section – B – 6 questions out of which any 4 are to be solved worth 40 marks.
CHEMISTRY( 1.5 hrs)
Section – A  –  Short compulsory questions worth 40 marks
Section – B – 6 questions out of which any 4 are to be solved worth 40 marks.
BIOLOGY( 1.5 hrs)
Section – A  –  Short compulsory questions worth 40 marks
Section – B – 6 questions out of which any 4 are to be solved worth 40 marks.
HISTORY AND CIVICS(2 hrs)
Section – A
First part deals with small answer type ques from civics part(10 marks)
Second part deals with small answer type ques from history part (20 marks)
Section – B
First part has 3 long answer type questions from civics out of which any 2 are to be solved(20 marks)
GEOGRAPHY(2 hrs)
First part has 2 questions –
i) Map of India(10 marks)
ii)Survey map and its interpretation(20 marks)
COMPUTER(2 hrs)
First section has short answer type questions worth 40 marks and the second section deals with program writing(Worth 60 marks
E.V.S(2 hrs)
First part has 4 compulsory questions and second part has 5 long answer type questions out of which any 4 are to be solved.

ICSE Class 10 General Tips

Use Mnemonics, Mind Maps and Flash Cards: The students should try to create mind maps along with the flashcards and paste near the study table. It will help in making tasks easier. One of the most famous mnemonic of mathematics is BEDMAS which means Brackets, Exponents, Division, Multiplication, Addition and Subtraction.


Plan A Schedule And Follow It: A schedule always helps in scoring good and distribution of time. It should be made according to the date sheet to make it more effective.

Write and practice: As per the scientific research writing and practicing is likely to be more remembered than mugging up. You can also make your handwritten notes that will help you more.

Don’t Take Stress: Taking stress is never helpful. So try to avoid stress during examinations and indulge yourself in some activities that makes you relax. You must remain positive and upbeat during examinations.

Tips to Follow on the Day Of The ICSE Examination
  • 7 hours of sleep is mandatory before the day of examination. A good sleep definitely helps effects the examination as it helps to feel fresh.
  • Read all the instructions on the examination paper carefully and decide the questions you want to attempt first.
  • Time management needs to be taken care of as you can attempt the questions first that you know.
  • Avoid leaving some questions in the last minutes as it will take your revision time.
  • You should avoid taking any oily food or heavy meal before the exam as that may make you feel uneasy and sleepy.
