State Bank of India recruits candidates on the basis of following stages. Participating candidates, in SBI Recruitment Process need to undergo three rounds that are listed below to get final selection as Probationary Officers.
  • Phase 1: Preliminary Examination
  • Phase 2: Main Examination
  • Phase 3: Group Exercises and Interview

SBI PO Prelims Exam Pattern

SBI PO Pre Exam Pattern:
  • Candidates who have submitted SBI PO Application Form are required to first attempt SBI PO Prelims exam. Details regarding SBI PO prelim exam pattern is furnished below.
  • SBI PO 2018 preliminary examination is an objective type test.
  • Participating candidates in exam have to select correct option for every question out of the four given choices
  • The total marks allotted for the preliminary exam are 100
  • As per the marking scheme of SBI PO Exam 1 marks will be awarded for each correct answer, whereas 1/4 of the total marks will be allotted to a question will be deducted for incorrect answer.
  • Through online mode preliminary exam will be held and candidates will have a composite time of 1 hour to complete the exam.
  • The exam will have 3 sections in total
  • Candidates have to qualify each section as per the cutoff and also overall cutoff will also decide the selection of candidate for further round.

SBI PO Mains Exam Pattern 2018

After qualifying SBI PO Exam as per SBI PO cutoff 2018 will be eligible to appear for SI PO mains exam. SBI PO, mains exam comprises two stages of examination i.e. objective test and descriptive test. Details of both the rounds are furnished below please have a look.

Objective Test
  • SBI PO mains objective test is for 200 marks
  • Candidates will have to appear for both objective test and the descriptive test as they will be conducted immediately after the completion of one exam.
  • As per SBI PO exam pattern, objective test of the mains exam has 4 sections that are Reasoning & Computer Aptitude, Data Analysis & Interpretation, General Economy/Banking Awareness, and English Language which includes total 200 marks.
  • Separate timing for every section will be given in objective test.
  • According to the marking scheme of the objective test, candidates are given 1 mark for correct answer and 1/4 of the total marks for a question will be deducted (Negative Marking) for a wrong answer. However, no mark will be deducted for any response.

SBI PO Mains Descriptive Test

In SBI Po exam when objective test is completed candidates need to appear for descriptive test immediately. The descriptive test will be conducted for 30 minutes for a total of 50 marks. SBI PO 2018 descriptive test will test the candidates on English Language – Letter Writing and Essay. Candidates are required to qualify in the descriptive test by securing passing marks, to be decided by the Bank. Descriptive test paper of only those candidates will be evaluated who have scored qualifying marks in the objective tests and are placed adequately high as per total marks in objective test.

Marking Scheme of SBI PO Mains Exam

Total weighted score = Scores obtained in (reasoning & computer aptitude+ data interpretation+ general/ economy/banking awareness + English Language)

SBI PO Group Exercises and Personal Interview

Qualified candidates as per SBI PO cutoff 2018 for mains exam will be now called for group exercises and personal interview test where the candidates will have to face an Interview board. In Group Exercises and Personal Interview round group exercises will carry 20 marks and interview will carry 30 marks.

The aggregate marks of candidates qualifying in both the Objective Tests and the Descriptive Test will be arranged in descending order in each category. An adequate number of candidates in each category, as decided by the Bank will be called for Group Exercises and Interview. The qualifying marks in Group Exercises and Interview will be decided by the Bank. The group exercise can take a variety of forms. Some of those are listed below:
  • Discuss a general topic or area of current affairs
  • Debate a work-related problem before finding a solution and presenting it back to the assessors as a group
  • Complete a task
