Roaming Free India, Mobile Roaming Charges Free in India Date

Edit

Roaming Free India –The date when Mobile roaming charges will be free in India is not far away as Telecom Minister Kapil Sibbal has made it clear to make India a Roaming Free India under the one nation one number plan as already proposed in NTP (National Telecom Policy) 2012.

This new policy will ensure that consumers can now expect to pay local charges while on roaming from the year 2013 onwards. This policy also allows number portability to go from local to national as well. So consumers, who once have to change their no. when shifting from one circle to another, can now retain their no. moving in any part of the country.

At present, consumers pay extra charges when going from one region to another, the so called roaming charges, even when the call has to be received but the consumers will now enjoy complete freedom as a result of this plan. This plan as a part of NTP 2012 got approved in May 2012, which also aims to reduce the frustration on slow internet when surfing on mobile.

But every consumer in India was wondering when to expect this change when Telecom Minister Kapil Sibbal gave this statement in response to a query by one of the media reporters, "From next year. Our secretary has told you that it will be free from next year."

In the meantime, the secretary of telecom ministry, R Chandrashekhar said that the Telecom Department has been working on Notice to invite applications for spectrum allocation after which they can work on Unified licence (UL) guidelines, which is also a part of NTC 2012.
