UPSC IAS Prelims Syllabus

To reach the designation of IAS officer, each applicants have to qualify the below given three of stages have a look-

Phase 1: Preliminary Examination or CSAT (Objective Section)

First stage is Pre exam or Civil Services Aptitude Test, contenders who are considered eligible as per application submitted can appear for IAS preliminary Examination.


Phase 2: Main Examination (Subjective Section)

Second stage is main examination. Applicants who will qualify the prelims exam stage they will be eligible to participate in UPSC IAS Mains examination.

Phase 3: Interview (Vocal Section)

After qualify both written examination (pre/mains), applicants will be called for interview round. Final selection will be done on the basis of performance of candidates in all three recruitment stages.

UPSC IAS Prelims Exam Pattern

IAS Preliminary Exam Pattern states that -
  • Questions will be of objective (MCQ) type.
  • Question paper will be available both in English & Hindi language.
  • There will be negative marking 1/3 marks for every wrong answer

Important Instructions

Note 1: In both Paper-I (current affairs) and Paper-II (aptitude test) there will be of multiple choice, objective type Questions of 200 marks each and allotted time of each paper is 2 hours.
Note 2: CSAT Aptitude test or Paper-II is qualifying in nature thus one has to secure minimum 33% for the Mains exam.
Note 3:  Candidate has to appear in both papers of Civil Services Prelims Examination. In case, if he or she fails to appear even in one paper of the (Prelims) exam then candidates will be disqualified. Thus appearing in both papers is mandatory for the evaluation of Pre exam.
